During the segment, Dr. Vercio explained that many common injuries, such as a sprained ankle, a possible broken wrist, or a dislocated finger, don’t require an emergency room visit. At Proliance Orthopedic Urgent Care, patients are seen by orthopedic specialists, can get an X-ray in minutes, and leave with a diagnosis and a splint, cast, or brace when needed. If an injury requires surgery, patients are connected with a surgeon, often as soon as the next day.

“Not that ERs aren’t great, but usually you don’t need to go there. It’s going to be a long wait time. You can just give us a call or even walk in and be seen by an orthopedic-trained specialist, and then get directly plugged in,” said Dr. Robert Vercio, orthopedic surgeon at Proliance Puget Sound Orthopaedics.

Billed Like an Office Visit, Not an ER Visit

Dr. Vercio also addressed cost, a common concern for patients. Proliance Orthopedic Urgent Care is billed like a regular clinic visit, not an emergency department visit, so for most patients the copay is the same as a visit to their primary care provider.
